What’s The Nostalgia project?
The 80s and 90s were incredible decades - for pop culture, technology, and social change - but they happened so quickly. The Nostalgia Project gives Gen X-ers (those born between ‘65 and ‘80) an opportunity to sit back and unpack those moments in more detail so we can understand the time - and ourselves - more deeply.
This isn’t nostalgia in a negative sense - it’s not about seeing the past as wonderful, and the future terrible because we’re not still wearing deely boppers and leg warmers. Frankly I’m glad we don’t see white dog poo on the pavements anymore or have to put up with casual racism. But I do find that because so much happened within that short period, there are still things about it that are new and therefore enlightening.
So please join me as I fire up the flux capacitor and zoom back through memorable moments of the past in order to learn what they mean for ourselves, if not our future.

About me
I always wanted to be the Julia Sawalha character in Press Gang, but after a short-lived journalism career, I pivoted to marketing.
In 2017, I launched my own marketing consultancy, FL | Storyteller, where I focus on brand, strategy and content for financial advisers.
When I’m not doing that, you’ll find me on the yoga mat, at the fish monger, or in John Lewis with my dachshund Rupert, who really enjoys the scented candle section.
